FAQ

What's the difference between the Original Ergorig and the Model II?

Model II is the fully upgraded Ergorig. It features a new ratchet belt to get the perfect tight fit, as well as new pop latch quick releases on the front and rear struts, for fast height adjustments.

Model I is our original, budget friendly Ergorig, and still offers the same weight transfer as the II.

Do I want the CenterFit or Classic?

While the CenterFit was originally designed for operators with larger chests, we found that some other operators (regardless of body type) also preferred it. Both versions offer the same weight transfer, it's really up to you if you find the front strut more comfortable on the right or in the center of your chest when operating. When using the Undersling, the CenterFit does allow a little more space along the right side of your body.

Do I want the Tall or Short size?

The tall size will fit the majority of operators, but if you have a shorter torso, go for the short. Measure from your front hip point to the top middle of your shoulder. If you're less than 20" order a short, more than 20" order a tall. Your front hip point is the part that feels like the tip of the triangle in your hip on the front side that is right around your belt line. Of course there's overlap between the two sizes, so if you're right at 20" either will work.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! At checkout you can select Shopify Pay, which let's you pay off your purchase over a several month period with no interest.

Will the Ergorig work with any camera?

YES! Since the camera doesn't connect to the Ergorig, you can put any kind of camera on it. It will take heavier film/tv cameras, sport/ENG style, prosumer builds, and everything in between. The Undersling will also attach to the top handle of any camera via it's adjustable strap.

How do I undersling my camera with an Ergorig?

The best way is to use the Undersling accessory, which allows for elegant on-the-fly adjustable shooting with the same weight transfer as if a camera was on top of your Ergorig. If you already own an Ergorig, you can purchase the Undersling accessory separately. Your rig already has the holes ready to attach the top portion of the Undersling to it, and installation takes less than five minutes.

If you want to shoot underslung without the Undersling attachment, you can also just attach any strap to an eyelet the top handle of the camera and wrap it around the top gripping pad on your Ergorig. It will take the weight, and the midriff straps will keep everything in place. You can also do the same thing with a CineSaddle.

What's the difference between an Ergorig and Easyrig?

They are two different systems. The Ergorig takes 100% of the weight off the operator's back, where you still have weight on your back with an Easyrig. We wanted a product that stoped all spinal compression, so it was important to remove 100% of the weight.
The Ergorig also doesn't extend above your head or protrude from your body, so it's easy to walk through doorways, get into cars, and get into all other kinds of small places we find ourselves operating in.
When using the Undersling attachement, the elastic properties of the elastomer band that connects to the camera help to take out steps when you're moving, and gives a softer touch then the static band on an Easyrig.

How do I fit my Ergorig to my body?

The rear strut's position on the belt only needs to be set once, and has different positions along the rear of the belt for different waist sizes. This adjustment effectively sets the position of where the shoulder of the rig sits relative to your neck, because it is setting the length of the belt between the struts on your right hip. Simply remove the four screws and replace them in the new holes for the desired belt size. Press down on the belt so it creates a flat surface to make it easier when replacing the screws.

Height adjustments of the front and rear struts can be made by loosening the pop latches (or two knobs if you have an Original model), while on or off your body. Most operators prefer to have it sit just above their shoulders, low enough to feel a little contact, but high enough to not actually feel any weight. You can also float the rig as high as you want above your shoulder if you want the camera to sit higher. Once you have it at the right height (also with the front and rear struts more or less even), to make small adjustments you only need to adjust the front strut's height. Keep in mind you want the belt to sit just above your hips, so when there is weight on the rig it will rest onto your hips- and tighten it as much as you can. It's very important to have the belt super tight! Also make sure it's not sitting so high that you still have weight on your lower back.

The midriff plate/strap can be raised/lowered independently to the desired position along both the front and rear struts to move the side strap to a comfortable position across your torso (below your left arm). Keep it as high as is comfortable, as this will provide more stability.

Lastly, the shoulder plate can be angled as well as slid away from your neck if needed by loosening the four mounting screws on the top of the struts.

How much does it weight?

A measly 5 lbs! (2.3 kg)

How does it pack for travel?

Ergorigs can easily collapse to pack away by unscrewing the front and rear screws from the struts to detach the belt. If you need it even smaller, you can also remove one or both of the struts from the shoulder plate by unscrewing the top two or four nuts.

Also, pro tip: airlines in the US do not count medical assistive devices towards carry-on allotment, as long as they are in a bag without any other personal items in it. Ergorigs are back braces, made to protect your health, and should be considered an assistive device. Please check with your airline in advance of flying to confirm that they will allow you to carry your Ergorig on outside of your allotted carry-on allowance. Of course you could be subject to a gate agent who doesn't understand the rules, we all know airlines and their employees don't always don't always act how we would prefer!

Are the pads washable

Yes! The front, back, and lower shoulder pads are removable and washable.

Can I convert my Classic to a CenterFit?

You can convert your Original model Ergorig Classic to a CenterFit with a conversion kit found here. Due to the speed latches, Ergorig II Classics are not able to be converted.
